Following an internal security audit, the Center granted Tamil actor and politician Vijay, the leader of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) party, a "Y" Category security.

According to several media outlets, the Ministry of Home Affairs in Tamil Nadu granted Vijay, the leader of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) party and a Tamil actor, a "Y" Category security cover.

In response to an internal security audit conducted by the Intelligence Bureau, the news outlet India Today claimed, citing individuals with knowledge of the event, that the actor-turned-politician had received a "Y" scale security cover.

 
What is the size of the security detail?
The news source, which cited an official notification from the Union Home Ministry on February 13, states that the security detail consists of eight to eleven security CRPF members. In addition, the "Y" scale detail indicates that Vijay will be accompanied by one or two commandos.

The Center offers four main categories of security information—X, Y, Z, and Z+—that are assigned to key personnel according to the degree of perceived or actual risk or danger.

The "Y" security would only be used for crowd control during public appearances, according to the news portal's article. The Center thinks that having a security element there will help manage the crowds more effectively.

AIADMK queries the actor's security
According to the news agency PTI, AIADMK senior leader K P Munusamy claimed on Friday, February 14, that the Center's action was an attempt by the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) to win the actor-politician over to their cause before the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections.

Everywhere he travels, the actor draws large crowds as the leader of a party. If the Center had been kind enough to give him security, I would be pleased. According to the agency report, Munusamy informed the reporters, "If not, has he been given this security to win him over to the BJP side?"

However, K Annamalai, the leader of the BJP in Tamil Nadu, criticized the DMK government for lacking the vision to give Vijay security details.

Regardless of the BJP's cooperation with the AIADMK party, Annamalai also offered the example of providing security details to Edappadi K. Palaniswami, the opposition leader.

Similarly, Vijay was granted 'Y' security by the central government. The large crowds are the reason Vijay is unable to meet the public. Why didn't Vijay receive this security from the state government? Why didn't the state government step up and provide him with security whenever there is a security issue and large crowds gather? In Tamil Nadu, there are X, Y, and Z security categories, according to Annamalai.
