Sachin shares the background behind his century celebrations, saying, "My life changed after I lost my father during the 1999 World Cup."

After receiving the prestigious Col. C.K. Nayudu Lifetime Achievement Award at the BCCI Naman Awards 2025, Sachin Tendulkar revealed the information.

Sachin Tendulkar, the batting superstar of India, talked about his customary century celebrations during his career on Saturday. He used to dedicate the hit to his father by looking up at the sky every time he reached the triple-figure mark in any format. After receiving the prestigious Col. C.K. Nayudu Lifetime Achievement Award at the BCCI Naman Awards 2025, Sachin revealed the information.

Sachin covered a number of subjects in his ten-minute award speech that put the crowd in stunned silence. Losing his father at the 1999 World Cup was one of them.

Before departing for the tournament once more and rejoining his team, the 51-year-old disclosed that he had to return to India from England during the World Cup to attend his father's death. Sachin went on to say that his celebration of his centennial was triggered by the news of his father's passing, which altered his life.

"In 1999, it began. My father died during the World Cup. For his funeral, I returned to India for a few days, and it completely altered who I was. I returned to play for the team in the World Cup. After that, things changed. I wanted my father to be present for many of the events that were going to take place in my life. I began displaying my bat to my father after that. Therefore, I would show my father everything that went well in my life first, and then we would all celebrate," he stated.

"Without a bat contract for two years..."
Sachin also talked about how important his father's principles were to him and why he chose not to support the tobacco and alcohol industries, which began using bat stickers for advertising in the 1990s. He had a two-year bat deal as a result of the ruling.

"I played for two years in the mid-1990s without a bat contract since, at the time, alcohol and tobacco firms were strongly marketing utilizing bats as a medium. However, everyone at home had decided that I would not advocate for drink or smoke. We made that significant decision as a family in the middle of the 1990s, and I played for two years.
