Why the PM Modi-Trump meeting is important
Amid worries in New Delhi about Washington's new "America First" trade agenda and immigration policies, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is on a two-day trip to the US, will engage in high-stakes negotiations with President Donald Trump.

The Blair House, the US president's residence in the center of the nation's capital, is where Modi is staying.

Preventing any punitive trade action by Washington against India is likely to be PM Modi's top priority given Trump's strict tariff policies, particularly with regard to Asian nations.

In order to avoid excessive tariffs and broaden the scope of commerce, experts and overseers of India-US relations stated that both parties may consider looking at a trade agreement.

Increasing India-US collaboration in areas such as commerce, investment, energy, defense, technology, and immigration is likely to be the main focus of the two leaders' meeting.
