Microsoft fires underperforming workers in layoffs

Microsoft has started laying off underperforming workers.

According to a Business Insider article, Microsoft, the US tech behemoth, has begun terminating US employees depending on their performance.

According to the termination letters included in the study, medical, pharmaceutical, and dental healthcare benefits for workers who lose their positions will terminate immediately.

The study also found that three workers were not paid severance.

"The reason(s) for the termination of your employment include your job performance has not met minimum performance standards and expectations for your position," the report cited the termination letters as stating. "You are relieved of all job duties with immediate effect, and your access to Microsoft systems, accounts, and buildings will be removed with effect from today."

The letters further stated that if the individual applies for other positions with Microsoft in the future, the business will take into account their prior performance and termination.

This follows Microsoft's evaluation of its staff up to level 80, one of its highest levels in recent months.

According to the estimate, Microsoft had about 228,000 full-time workers at the end of June 2024, and since the company will backfill the position, the total headcount might not alter substantially.

According to the source, Microsoft also laid off employees this month in the areas of gaming, sales, experiences and devices, and security.
