The internet giant Meta, led by Mark Zuckerberg, is reportedly laying off 3,600 workers as it gets ready to implement its planned layoffs next week.

In an internal memo, Meta informed employees that company is moving forward with hiring machine learning engineers more quickly, according to a Reuters story.

Employees who will lose their employment will receive notices starting at 5 a.m. local time on Monday in the majority of nations, including the US.

Staff members were asked to help with a quicker hiring process for machine learning engineers and other "business critical" technical positions in a separate message posted by Peng Fan, VP of technical for Monetization, on Friday.

In that post, which Reuters was able to view, Fan stated that the process will occur from February 11 to March 13.

"Thank you for your continued support in helping us achieve our accelerated hiring goals, and better align with our company's priorities for 2025."

A Bloomberg report claims that US job postings in December dropped more than expected to a three-month low, which is in line with a downturn in the labor market.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey, or JOLTS, said on Tuesday that the number of open positions had dropped from a revised 8.16 million in November to 7.60 million.
