Free IPL streaming coming to an end? The debut of JioHotstar may cause problems for Indian cricket fans.

Indian cricket fans will be disappointed when the IPL 2025 starts on March 22 because JioCinema and Hotstar's merger means that free streaming will no longer be available. Following a trial period, JioHotstar, the new app, will require subscriptions; options range from ₹149 to ₹1,499, respectively.

IPL 2025 is quickly approaching, and fans are eagerly anticipating the major athletic event, which will begin on March 22. However, there is some significant news that could disappoint Indian cricket lovers following JioCinema and Hotstar.

Notably, in a $8.5 billion transaction last year, the two biggest streaming services for Indian cricket joined forces to create JioStar. JioStar announced on January 14th the release of JioHotstar, a new streaming app that would include all of the content from the two apps.

No more free IPL streaming: According to a Reuters story, JioHotstar is anticipated to implement a hybrid strategy for the domestic cricket season following the merger, which means that free IPL streaming would come to an end. According to reports, users will be required to acquire a subscription to the new app after a specific amount of time during which they will still be able to watch the match for free.

Interestingly, JioCinema has been offering free IPL streaming to all subscribers since 2023, when it paid $3 billion to purchase the rights to the well-known cricket competition.

According to a source cited by Reuters, "Once a user develops affinity to the platform, start watching free, become loyal... the subscription will kick in then."

Plans offered by JioHotstar: Interestingly, JioHotstar plans range in price from ₹149 in India to ₹1,499 for the most expensive premium ad-free plan, which is available for a full year.

Ad-supported mobile plan: ₹499 annually, or ₹149 for three months. One device at a time is accessible.

Super (ad-supported plan) costs ₹899 annually and ₹299 for three months. Up to two devices can utilize it simultaneously on a mobile device, the web, or any other compatible living room device.
