For the first time since Donald Trump's return, the US deports Indian migrants using C-17 military aircraft.

Concerns over illegal Indian immigration to the US have been voiced by both Secretary of State Marco Rubio and President Donald Trump.

A US official informed news agency Reuters on Monday that a US military plane had taken off carrying illegal migrants to India. He stated that although the C-17 plane took off with migrants on board, they wouldn't get there for at least a day.

By sending more troops to the US-Mexico border, deploying military planes to deport migrants, and setting up military sites to house them, the Trump administration has enlisted the support of the US military to further his immigration agenda.

Illegal migrants have been transported by deportation planes to Guatemala, Peru, and Honduras. According to the report, India is the furthest the aircraft will go since the Trump administration returned.

This will be the first deportation to India since US President Donald Trump returned to the White House. During their respective meetings with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio expressed worries about illegal Indian immigration to the United States.

Trump-Modi dialogue
In addition, President Trump stated that he spoke with Prime Minister Modi about immigration and that India will return "illegal immigrants" in accordance with "what is right."

The two leaders had a "productive call," according to the White House, and talked about ways to "expand and deepen" collaboration between the two nations.

Rubio brought up the matter with Jaishankar over what the State Department referred to as "irregular immigration." India "firmly opposed" illegal immigration to the United States, according to the country's external affairs ministry.

Numerous more unlawful actions are linked to it. It is not appealing, and it has a bad reputation. Jaishankar had stated, "We have been open to their legitimate return to India if there are any of our citizens who are not here legally and we are certain they are our citizens."

Between October 2023 and September 2024, the United States deported over 1,100 illegal immigrants from India, according to an HT report.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) assistant secretary for border and immigration strategy, Royce Murray, stated in November that the number of illegal Indian immigrants deported from the United States has been steadily rising in recent years.

The deportations were described by the Ministry of External Affairs as the result of "regular consular dialogue and arrangement" with the United States. Additionally, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated that the organization still holds "regular consular dialogue" and makes the required "arrangements" regarding immigration and people-movement between the two nations.
