As of right now, Tesla is hiring for 13 positions, both back-end and customer-facing ones.
A Bloomberg story claims that billionaire Elon Musk's electric vehicle (EV) behemoth Tesla Inc. is hiring in India, a clear indication that it intends to enter the market. This follows President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Narendra Modi's meeting with Musk in the United States last week.
Advertisements on LinkedIn indicate that Tesla is now looking for applicants for 13 positions, including back-end and customer-facing positions.
Among these positions are "Inside Sales Advisor," "Tesla Advisor," "Customer Support Specialist," and "Consumer Engagement Manager." "Expert in Order Operations," "Manager of Services," "Business Operations Analyst," "Store Manager," "Parts Advisor," "Service Advisor," "Delivery Operations Specialist," and "Supervisor of Customer Support."
While the remaining posts, such as delivery operations specialist and customer engagement manager, were for Mumbai, at least five of the positions, including service technician and other advisory roles, were available in both Delhi and Mumbai.
Although they had been involved intermittently for years, the EV manufacturer had so far mostly avoided India because of high import taxes.
India has, however, lowered the minimum customs charge on luxury vehicles costing more than $40,000 from 110% to 70%.
For example, compared to China, India's EV market is still in its infancy. According to the survey, Chinese people purchased 11 million electric cars last year, while Indians purchased 100,000.
India may still be a viable option for Tesla to address its declining sales, which fell for the first time yearly in over ten years.
This demonstrates how Musk's corporate and political interests are becoming increasingly entwined.
For example, Italy acknowledged negotiations with Musk's SpaceX to supply the government of the nation with secure satellite-based telecommunications. This followed a meeting between then-President-elect Trump and Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.
