Following the appearance of Bengali signage, Elon Musk supports a UK MP's request that the name of the London station be in English.

"This is London - the station name should be in English, and English only," UK MP Lowe said on X after sharing a picture of the multilingual sign at Whitechapel Station.

After a dual-language signboard included "Bengali," tech billionaire Elon Musk backed a British MP's post claiming that a London railway station name should only be displayed in English.

On his official X account, Great Yarmouth MP Rupert Lowe posted a picture of the multilingual sign at Whitechapel Station. According to Lowe, a Reform UK MP for Great Yarmouth, "This is London - the station name should be in English, and English only," on Sunday.

Elon Musk, the owner of X, responded to his tweet, which went viral online, with the simple words, "Yes."

Reputable for his tight relationship with former US President Donald Trump, Musk recently proposed replacing Nigel Farage as leader of Reform UK and seemed to support 67-year-old Lowe. Some social media users defended bilingual placards, saying they were "not wrong," while others agreed with Lowe's position.

Since the anti-immigration riots last summer, Musk has frequently criticized Prime Minister Keir Starmer in an attempt to sway British politics. He supported requests for a nationwide investigation into how the government's prosecution department, which Starmer had previously led, handled accusations of rape of minor girls by men of Pakistani descent.

Reactions to Lowe's post on X were divided; some users supported bilingual signs, while others disagreed.

"Couldn't agree more Rupert, it's time to stand up for our national identity and language," wrote one user in support of Lowe's viewpoint. It's simple sense that we shouldn't sacrifice our own culture to accommodate everyone else's. Well said; please continue to speak out against this awakened bullshit.

But not everybody was in agreement. "While I appreciate the sentiment," retorted one commenter, "can you imagine going to Shanghai or Tokyo and not a single sign was written in English?"

The Bengali signpost was put up when?

In 2022, a Bengali sign commemorating the contributions of the Bangladeshi population to east London was placed at Whitechapel Tube station.

As part of larger development initiatives, the Tower Hamlets Council provided funding for dual-language signage at Whitechapel Station. The largest Bangladeshi community in the UK is reportedly found in this area.

Mamata Banerjee, the chief minister of West Bengal, praised the move.

In March 2022, she posted on X, "I'm proud to see that the London Tube Rail has adopted Bengali as a language of signage at Whitechapel Station, demonstrating the growing global significance and power of the 1000-year-old language."

She emphasized in a different post that the ruling underscored the need of cultural cohesion within the diaspora.

"It is a victory of our culture and heritage," declaring Banerjee.
