News from Syria: At least 19 people were killed on Monday, February 3, when a car bomb detonated in the northern Syrian city of Manbij. Following Saturday's explosion, this is the second bombing in the city in three days and the worst in Syria since Bashar al-Assad was overthrown in December 2024.The explosion occurred roughly 30 kilometers (19 miles) from the Turkish border, according to Reuters. Mohammad Ahmad, a hospital nurse, told the AP that the victims comprised one guy and eighteen women.
According to the Syrian civil defense in the area, another 15 ladies were injured, some of them critically.
How did the vehicle bomb detonate?
Munir Mustafa, the deputy director of civil defense, told AP that Monday's incident is the eighth vehicle bomb explosion in Manbij, Syria in less than a month.
The explosion caused several casualties because the automobile was carrying female workers to a farm, according to the Qatar News Agency (QNA). According to QNA's report, civil defense teams hurried to administer first aid to the injured.
"Manbij residents are working to protect specific neighborhoods and install security cameras in the city's main neighborhoods," said Manbij activist Jameel al-Sayyed.
According to Reuters, the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) denounced the attack and charged that groups supported by Turkey were employing violence and explosions of this nature to scare locals.
