In his speech at the AI Action Summit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged the development of people-centered applications and the democratization of technology.
On Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged funding for retraining and skill development in preparation for a future driven by artificial intelligence (AI).The prime minister added, "The most feared disruption of AI is the loss of jobs, but history has shown that work does not disappear due to technology, only its nature changes," while speaking at the AI Action Summit at the Grand Palais in Paris. In order to prepare for an AI-driven future, we must invest in retraining and skilling our workforce.
Alongside French President Emmanuel Macron, Prime Minister Modi is co-chairing the AI Action Summit.
"We need to create open source platforms that improve transparency and confidence. We must democratize technology, develop people-centered applications, and construct high-quality data centers free from prejudice. Concerns about deepfakes, misinformation, and cyber security must be addressed, PM Modi stated.
For technology to be effective and beneficial, we also need to make sure that it is anchored in regional ecosystems. AI's most feared disruption is job loss, yet history demonstrates that technology does not eliminate employment; rather, it merely modifies its nature. In order to prepare for an AI-driven future, we must invest in retraining and skilling our workforce," the prime minister continued.
"AI is evolving at a never-before-seen scale and speed, and it is being modified and implemented even more quickly. Additionally, there is a strong cross-border dependency. As a result, international cooperation is required to create norms and governance that uphold our common values, manage risks, and foster confidence," Modi continued.
Governance is about making sure everyone has access: PM Modi
The Prime Minister asserted that, particularly in the Global South, government is about making sure that everyone has access.
It is the area with the greatest deficiency in capabilities, whether they be skill, power, or data for financial resources. AI has the potential to change millions of lives by enhancing agriculture, education, health, and a host of other areas. It can contribute to the creation of a world where achieving sustainable development goals is quicker and simpler. We need to pool our resources and talent to do this. We need to create open-source systems that improve transparency and confidence. Modi was reported by ANI as adding, "We need to create high-quality data sets that are free of biases."
