WTC Final 2023–25: Australia schedules a date with South Africa following a 3-1 victory over India in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy

Australia secured their spot in the World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 final, which will be played against South Africa at Lord's later this year, after defeating India by six wickets in the fifth and final Test, reclaiming the Border-Gavaskar Trophy after a ten-year absence. Australia qualified for the WTC final for the second time in a row with this victory, while India was eliminated. Australia prevailed 3-1 in the BGT 2024-24.

Australia only needed to win their final three Test matches to earn a spot in the coveted WTC final, as South Africa had already advanced to their first-ever final last month. Australia, under the leadership of Pat Cummins, won the match in just three days. Additionally, Cummins became the first player to take 200 Test wickets in WTC history.

India is solely responsible for its own problems. India was well-positioned to advance to the WTC final for the third time in a row after defeating Bangladesh 2-0 at home.

However, their hopes were put in jeopardy after they lost 0–3 to New Zealand at home. After winning the opening match in Australia, India lost three of their next four games and was out of the competition.

India was denied a spot in their last Test match of the cycle (50.00% of available points) by the victory, which advanced Australia to 63.73% of possible points. Next up for Australia are two Test matches against Sri Lanka in Galle.

Australia vs. South Africa, WTC 2023–25 final date & location
From June 11–15, Australia and South Africa will compete in the WTC final. Additionally, it will be the first time the WTC final is held at Lord's. The Oval (2023) and Southampton (2021) hosted the first two WTC finals.
