Will the US maintain or do away with H1-B visas? The remarks made by President Donald Trump regarding "quality talent"

US President Donald Trump highlights the value of the H1-B visa program in attracting skilled workers to the nation, claiming that having top talent is crucial for company growth and success in general.

US President Donald Trump has made it clear that he supports the H1-B visa program, despite worries that the US may stop issuing them.

Donald Trump was quoted by ANI on X when they said, "We need great people to come to our country and we do that through the H1B program."

What did Donald Trump say?
Trump, who became the 47th President of the United States on January 20, stated that the United States needs qualified individuals to boost its enterprises.

Trump stated, "But what I really do feel is that we have to let really competent people, great people, come into our country and we do that through the H-1B," just one day after he took office.

"I like highly qualified individuals entering our nation, even if that means assisting and training others who might not be as qualified as they are. I don't want to stop, though. I'm not just referring to engineers, either. I'm referring to individuals at all levels. We want qualified individuals to enter our nation. And I am quite familiar with H-B1. I make use of the application. He said, "Maitre d's, wine specialists, even waiters, high-quality waiters."

H-1B Visa: What is it?
Employers can apply for highly qualified foreign professionals to work in "specialty occupations" that need at least a bachelor's degree or its equivalent under the H-1B temporary (non-immigrant) visa category. Jobs in the medical sciences, engineering, technology, and mathematics frequently qualify. An H-1B visa classification normally has a three-year initial term that can be extended to a maximum of six years.

Everything you should know about the controversies surrounding the H-1B visa
Following Trump's appointment of Sriram Krishnan as the White House policy adviser on artificial intelligence, the discussion surrounding immigration policy and H1B visas became more heated. Krishnan had argued for the elimination of national restrictions on the number of skilled immigrants who may be granted green cards.

Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy, who pushed for the expansion of the visa program for "highly skilled workers," faced strong criticism from the president-elect's supporters last month, causing a significant rift within the MAGA team in the US.

As Trump gets ready to take office, the controversy over H-1B visas was rekindled by Musk and Ramaswamy, two foreign origin leaders who are in charge of Trump's Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). Ramaswamy left DOGE in order to run for governor.

H-1B visa limits were notably imposed by Trump's government during his first term, citing worries about "abuse" and "economic strain." Trump criticized the program in 2016 on the grounds that it permitted businesses to substitute cheaper foreign labor for American workers.
