Growing up in Missouri in the late 1990s and early 2000s, Ann Altman said she was mistreated and coerced by her brother, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman.
Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, was sued in a federal court by his sister, who claimed that he had sexually assaulted her for nearly ten years. In a Bloomberg article, Ann Altman, 30, claimed that during their childhood in Missouri in the late 1990s and early 2000s, Sam Altman mistreated and controlled her.
The complaint was filed on Monday, according to the article. The latest incident allegedly happened when he was an adult but she was still a kid, and the abuse allegedly started when she was three years old.On social media, Ann Altman has previously accused Sam Altman of abusing her.
"Totally false"
The 39-year-old Sam Altman called the allegations "completely false" in a statement he posted on X on Tuesday on behalf of his siblings, mother, and himself.
The statement said, "This situation causes immense pain to our entire family."
"Annie keeps asking us for more money," Sam Altman stated. "We've tried in many ways over the years to support Annie and help her find stability, following professional advice on how to be supportive without enabling harmful behaviors," he claimed in his statement.
We have provided her with monthly financial support, paid her bills directly, covered her rent, assisted her in finding work, tried to get her medical attention, and offered to purchase a home for her through a trust so that she would have a safe place to live but not be able to sell it right away. We anticipate that Annie will continue to receive monthly financial support for the remainder of her life through our late father's estate," the statement said.
"We've decided not to publicly respond, out of respect for both our own and her privacy," it continued. We feel compelled to address this, though, as she has now filed a lawsuit against Sam.
The enormous success of OpenAI's ChatGPT chatbot, which ignited an AI craze when it was released in late 2022, elevated longstanding Silicon Valley investor and entrepreneur Sam Altman to a global celebrity.
Sam Altman's personal wealth, which includes a network of venture capital funds and startup investments, was estimated by Bloomberg News last year to be over $2 billion. He has repeatedly said that he has no stake in OpenAI.
Plaintiffs may file claims for childhood sexual abuse up until the age of 31 in accordance with Missouri state law. Ann Altman is bringing a lawsuit for damages, alleging that she has been in a great deal of emotional anguish and that her medical bills for mental health treatment are getting out of control.
