The stock market is doing better overall today, with the Sensex and Nifty 50 rebounding from a two-day selloff.

While the Sensex ended the session at 78,199, 0.30% higher than the previous close, the Nifty 50 ended the session up 0.39% at 23,707.

After facing intense selling pressure from the bears over the previous two trading days, the bulls gave the Indian markets a much-needed lift during today's trading session, January 7, which helped the frontline indices close the session higher. Heavyweights like HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, and Reliance Industries helped to bolster this recovery.

Even though the session ended on a positive note, the indices lost their initial gains as it seemed that investors were booking profits at higher levels.Similar to the frontline indices, the overall market recovered from its session highs but still managed to beat them.

While the Sensex ended the session at 78,199, 0.30% higher than the previous close, the Nifty 50 ended the session up 0.39% at 23,707. The Nifty Smallcap 100 index gained 1.35% at 18,673 at the close of the session, while the Nifty Midcap 100 index gained 0.89% at 56,869 points.
