The Madras High Court denied Netflix India's request to have Dhanush's copyright claim over the Nayanthara documentary dismissed.

The Madras High Court denied Netflix India's request to have Dhanush's copyright claim over the Nayanthara documentary dismissed.

Dhanush and Nayanthara have been at odds over copyright allegations even before the Netflix documentary Nayanthara: Beyond the Fairytale was made available.

Netflix India's attempt to have Dhanush's copyright claims over the documentary Nayanthara: Beyond the Fairytale dismissed was denied by the Madras High Court on Tuesday. As the copyright case trial at the HC started last week, Live Law verified the information.

Netflix India's application is denied by HC
On X (previously Twitter), the media stated that the High Court rejected Netflix India's attempt to deny Dhanush's copyright complaint for utilizing his footage from Naanum Rowdy Dhaan in the documentary without obtaining his no objection certificate (NOC). "#MadrasHC DISMISSES Netflix India's Application To Reject Copyright Suit Filed By #Dhanush Against #NetflixIndia, #Nayanthara, #VigneshSivan, And Their Production Company For Unauthorized Use of Footage From #NaanumRowdyDaan in the Netflix documentary," they wrote.

Simultaneously, the judge overseeing the lawsuit informed Los Gatos, the Indian company of the OTT platform, that he will hear Dhanush's Wunderbar's interim injunction on February 5. According to reports, Netflix claimed that despite the fact that the image of Nayanthara and Vignesh Shivan from the film was uploaded in 2020, nothing was done about it. Additionally, they contended that there was no urgency in the filing of the plaint, which was made a week after the documentary's premiere.

When the documentary's trailer was released, Dhanush's lawyer said that an email was filed opposing the use of the material, but it went unanswered. Even the hairstyles and outfits were claimed to belong to the producing company.

What took place
Nayanthara, Vignesh, and their Rowdy Pictures Private Limited were sued by Dhanush's Wunderbar Films Private Limited in November of last year. According to the lawsuit, they took certain images from the Netflix documentary Nayanthara: Beyond the Fairytale, which starred Naanum Rowdy Dhaan. Additionally, Dhanush's business has filed a request asking the High Court to allow it to bring legal action against Los Gatos Production Services India LLP, the company that Netflix uses to disclose its content investments in India.
