Tahawwur Rana, the mastermind of the 26/11 Mumbai attack, is expected to be extradited by an NIA team to the United States.

Tahawwur Rana, the mastermind of the 26/11 Mumbai attack, is expected to be extradited by an NIA team to the United States.

The NIA intends to travel to the US to hasten the extradition of Tahawwur Rana, who is linked to the 2008 Mumbai attacks, in a landmark move for justice. This comes after a Supreme Court decision gave victims and their families hope by removing a legal obstacle.

According to sources who spoke to ANI, a team from the National Investigation Agency (NIA) is expected to travel to the United States shortly to finalize the procedures for the extradition of Tahawwur Rana, who is wanted in India for his involvement in the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks.

According to reports, the action was done in light of the US Supreme Court's recent ruling to deny Rana's review appeal contesting his extradition to India. A major legal obstacle has been removed by the ruling, enabling Indian authorities to move more quickly to bring him to justice.

According to sources cited by ANI, the Ministry of External Affairs and the Ministry of Home Affairs have been informed of the decision to send a team of Inspector General and Deputy Inspector General rank officers to the United States by the end of this month.

Tahawwur Rana is who?

Rana, a Canadian citizen, is a Pakistani-born businessman and former doctor. He is charged with supporting David Coleman Headley, the primary mastermind behind the 26/11 Mumbai attacks, in his reconnaissance efforts.

Rana allegedly gave Headley permission to fly to India and find possible targets for an attack by using his immigration company as a front. Rana was detained by the FBI in Chicago in 2009 for his role in a terror network backed by Pakistan. Although he was cleared of charges directly connected to the Mumbai attacks, he was found guilty in the United States of aiding Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), the terrorist organization that carried out the attacks.

In order to hold Rana responsible for his role in the attacks that claimed 166 lives and injured hundreds more, India has been working to get him extradited.

According to the NIA, Rana is a crucial player in the plot because of his assistance and encouragement of Headley.

The extradition procedure has accelerated since Rana's review appeal was denied by the US Supreme Court. According to ANI, India's resolve to provide justice for the victims of one of its greatest terror strikes is demonstrated by the NIA team's impending visit.

Among the people who conspired with Rana was David Headley. Headley cooperated against Rana and entered a guilty plea.

A horrifying terrorist attack that became known as the 26/11 Mumbai attacks took place in South Mumbai on November 26, 2008. The assailants killed 166 people, including 18 security personnel, and injured nearly 300 others through hostage-taking, gunfights with security forces, and vicious attacks on civilians. Indian commandos put forth a lot of effort to neutralize the assailants and rescue the hostages during the nearly four-day-long attacks.
