Mohd Shariful Islam Shehzad was taken into custody by the police on Saturday night after he allegedly broke into Saif Ali Khan's home and repeatedly stabbed the actor.

Sandeep Shekhane, his lawyer, refuted the police allegations.

"The accused has been placed under police detention for a period of five days. The police have been given five days by the court to deliver a report. No evidence that he is a Bangladeshi has been found by the police. They made the false claim that he arrived here six months ago. He has spent more than seven years residing here. His relatives reside in Mumbai. There hasn't been a thorough probe into this blatant breach of 43A," Shekhane told ANI.

The accused's attorney, Dinesh Prajapati, stated that the police's justification for requesting his arrest was "inadequate."

"Police detention was requested, and the justifications provided by the police are insufficient...Accused Mohammad Shariful Islam Shehzad has stated in his defense that nothing has been found on him.He is a citizen of Bangladesh, but the police have not supplied any documentation to support this claim. His police detention has been ordered for five days by the court," Prajapati informed ANI.

According to the police, the accused is a native of the Jhalokati district of Bangladesh. They stated that the culprit was arrested at Hiranandani Estate in Thane just as he was ready to escape to his hometown.
