News about Pay Commissions: Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw declared on Thursday, January 16, that the implementation of the 8th Pay Commission to update the salaries of crores of Central government employees has been approved by the Union Cabinet. Central government personnel will get pay rises as a result of the 8th Pay Commission's implementation, and the Dearness Allowance (DA) will also be adjusted.

The pensions and benefits of Central government retirees will also be revised by the 8th Pay Commission once it is established. Since the establishment of the 8th Pay Commission, government workers and retirees have been anticipating a change to their pay schedules.

Days before the Budget 2025 announcements, the Union Cabinet announced that the 8th Pay Commission had been approved.

The precise date of the 8th Pay Commission's establishment has not yet been disclosed, despite Ashwini Vaishnaw's confirmation that the Cabinet has authorized it for Central Government employees.

Date of the 8th Pay Commission setup
However, according to the Union minister, the commission is expected to be established by 2026. Reports indicate that the 8th Pay Commission will be implemented.

According to Ashwini Vaishnaw, two members and the chairman would be selected shortly to supervise the implementation of the 8th Pay Commission.

I&B Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw stated in the statement that Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a Cabinet meeting when the decision to establish the 8th Pay Commission was made.

The formation of the 8th Central Pay Commission for all Central government employees has been approved by our Prime Minister, he stated.

According to Ashwini Vaishnaw, the establishment of the new Pay Commission in 2025 will guarantee that its recommendations are implemented well in advance of the seventh pay panel's mandate ending. According to Vaishnaw, discussions with the federal government, state governments, and other interested parties would take place.

What changes did the 7th Pay Commission bring about?
The government chose a fitment ratio of 2.57 for the 7th Pay Commission's compensation review, despite employee unions' demands for a 3.68 fitment factor. One multiplier used to determine salaries and pensions is the fitting factor.

As a result, government workers now receive ₹18,000 per month as their minimal basic salary, up from ₹7,000 during the 6th salary Commission.
