Police state that the accused's face must match the CCTV footage of Saif Ali Khan's stabbing.

A knife-wielding invader is accused of repeatedly stabbing Saif Ali Khan inside his Bandra apartment in the early hours of January 16.

Mumbai Police said Friday that they must "conduct facial recognition of the Bangladeshi man to ascertain if he was the person seen in the CCTV footage from the building housing actor Saif Ali Khan's apartment in Mumbai's Bandra." This comes days after they apprehended the culprit in the star's attack case.

In the early hours of January 16, Saif Ali Khan was allegedly repeatedly wounded by a knife-wielding intruder inside his apartment on the 12th floor of the posh Satguru Sharan building in Bandra.

After being admitted to Lilavati Hospital, Saif Ali Khan had two procedures to repair the stab wounds to his neck and the area around his spine. On January 21, Saif Ali Khan was released from the private hospital.

The accused, Shareeful Islam Shehzad Mohammad Rohilla Amin Fakir (30), was taken into custody by Mumbai Police on January 19 after CCTV footage from the actor's flat revealed the claimed intruder at the building's stairway.

The accused was brought before a magistrate's court by the police on Friday, and his police custody was prolonged until January 29.

According to a news agency PTI report, the police requested additional detention of Fakir, stating that although significant progress had been achieved in the investigation, the accused needed to be questioned more on important case-related issues.

Police are looking for facial recognition.
To prove that the accused was the person shown in the CCTV footage taken from the actor's building, the police, represented by public prosecutors KS Patil and Prasad Joshi, contended that facial recognition technology must be employed.

This follows social media analysis of the CCTV film, with some people asserting that the arrested man is not the same, and assertions by the accused man's father that the individual seen in the footage was not his son.

According to the accused's father, his son was arrested and implicated in the case because of certain similarities.

Fakir's remand was extended till January 29 by judicial magistrate KC Rajput, who stated that given the severity of the offense and the investigation's progress, the accused needed more time in jail.

The police informed the court that the shoes Fakir was wearing at the time of the attack have not yet been found and that it is also necessary to compare Fakir's footprints to those discovered at Khan's home.

Additionally, police reported that the accused was not assisting with the investigation and that the missing portion of the knife used in the crime had not yet been found.

The court was notified that the accused's driving license from Bangladesh had been found, proving his ancestry from the neighboring nation.
