One Nation One Election bills: what are they?

During parliament's winter session, these bills were presented to the Lok Sabha. The bills call for simultaneous elections to India's state assemblies and Lok Sabha.

Earlier, JPC Chairperson Chaudhary stated that if the development initiatives being carried out are accelerated, India will achieve its aim of "Viksit Bharat" by 2047. He went on to say that if the model code of conduct is applied less frequently, the development work can be completed more quickly.

"In the past, the Lok Sabha elections were held simultaneously...The succession was later disrupted by the dissolution of other governments. The public feels stressed and expenses have increased significantly as a result of the frequent elections," Chaudhary continued.
