CCPA notices are issued to Ola and Uber for allegedly charging customers different fees based on whether they used iOS or Android phones.
The Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) has issued notices to cab aggregators Ola and Uber for allegedly charging passengers different charges depending on the operating system of their mobile devices. On Thursday, January 32, 2025, Pralhad Joshi, the Minister of Consumer Affairs, made this announcement in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
"The Department of Consumer Affairs, through the CCPA, has sent notices to major cab aggregators #Ola and #Uber, seeking their responses, in response to the earlier observation of apparent #DifferentialPricing based on the different models of mobiles (#iPhones/Android) being used," he said.
According to a report by news agency PTI, Joshi had stated last month that there would be "zero tolerance for consumer exploitation" and requested that the CCPA look into the claims in detail.
The claimed activity was even referred to by him as a "prima facie unfair trade practice" and a "blatant disregard" for the right of consumers to transparency.
