On a chilly Christmas, Mr. Beast defended his family's attire, while others questioned why they were barefoot. Despite attaining 300 million subscribers and proposing to Thea Booysen in 2024, he came under fire, sparking debate over their outfits during the engagement announcement.
MrBeast, a YouTube phenomenon who is well-known for his extravagant challenges and charitable endeavors, recently revealed that he and his fiancée Thea Booysen are engaged. A touching occasion spent with family, the proposal happened on Christmas Day. However, Thea Booysen and her family were wearing MrBeast goods for the engagement reveal on January 1, 2025, which caused controversy among many viewers.Among the first to comment on the odd clothing was fellow YouTuber J Aubrey, who said, "I'm sorry, but it's very funny that they're all wearing his merch."
Social media users quickly responded to this discovery, calling the scene "corporate and soulless" and "creepy."
One reviewer even said that it didn't feel like a true family event, but more like just another marketing gimmick for MrBeast's company.
MrBeast responded to the criticism by defending the outfit selection and stating that the family was only attempting to remain warm. He explained, "I just happened to have some Christmas sweaters laying around and it was cold in the house."
Many users remained skeptical despite his explanation, pointing out that everyone was barefoot in spite of the cold weather and implying that MrBeast could easily afford to heat the house.
For MrBeast, 2024 was a year of both successes and controversies. He started the well-known "Beast Games" on Amazon and became the first creator to reach 300 million subscribers, but he was also under fire for a number of reasons, such as claims of cryptocurrency scams and worries about the safety of his products.
Thea Booysen and Mr. Beast become engaged.
In front of their relatives, who were all in on the surprise, the pair got engaged on Christmas at their house, according to People.
"Both families were there because my relatives flew from South Africa for Christmas and we planned to celebrate at home. We were opening gifts when he instructed me to close my eyes because the final one was unexpected," Booysen told People.
"Before giving her the actual gift—with the ring inside—I purposefully dropped a big box to create noise. Then I knelt down and made a proposal," Mr. Beast said.
Opening her eyes, Booysen "of course said yes" and was "extremely excited."
Since Thea and her family are very close, I wanted to make sure they were part of this significant event.
They were in town from the other side of the planet, so Christmas went really well," MrBeast said.
