Married couples only are permitted: OYO updates the rules; relationship verification is now needed to check in.

In Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, OYO has changed its check-in policies to forbid unmarried couples from checking in at partner hotels. Hotels have the right to accept or reject reservations based on local sensibilities, and couples must provide legitimate proof of their relationship.

According to PTI on Sunday, hotel booking operator OYO has changed the check-in policies for its partner hotels and implemented new restrictions that go into force this year, prohibiting unmarried couples from checking in. According to the news report, Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, will be the first place where the new rule is implemented.

All couples making reservations will need to provide legitimate proof of relationship at check-in under the updated rules. Online reservations are likewise subject to this rule.

According to a business statement cited by PTI, OYO has granted partner hotels the authority to accept or reject the reservations based on their assessment and in accordance with local societal sensibilities.

OYO's partner hotels in Meerut would be immediately impacted by this rule. According to the report, which cited those who are aware of the strategy, the corporation plans to spread the policy to further locations based on feedback from the ground.

"OYO has previously received feedback from civil society groups, particularly in Meerut, urging action to address this issue," they stated. A few other cities' citizens have also petitioned to ban unmarried couples from checking in at OYO hotels.

According to the story, which cited OYO, the updated policy is a component of the travel agency's effort to change antiquated notions and position itself as a firm that offers safe travel experiences for families, students, business travelers, religious travelers, and lone travelers. According to the corporation, it also wants to encourage more frequent reservations and longer stays.

Hotels being placed on a blacklist
OYO has launched nationwide projects, such as police and partner hotel-led workshops on safe hospitality. According to the statement, it is taking action against unapproved hotels that use the OYO name and blacklisting hotels that are allegedly encouraging unethical behavior.

"OYO is dedicated to maintaining responsible and safe hospitality practices. We acknowledge our obligation to cooperate with law enforcement and civil society organizations in the micromarkets we operate in, even as we uphold individual liberties and freedoms. We will keep reviewing this policy and its effects on a regular basis," OYO North India Region Head Pawas Sharma told PTI.
