KL Rahul stated that he will be ready for selection in the Champions Trophy even if he chose not to participate in the limited overs home series against England.
Following a mentally and physically taxing Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia, KL Rahul has made the decision to take a vacation from cricket. The BCCI selection committee, led by Ajit Agarkar, has reportedly heard Rahul's request to be excused from the limited-overs series against England that begins in Kolkata on January 22. The home series, which consists of three ODIs and five T20s, will be more important because it comes before the Champions Trophy, which begins on February 19.Interestingly, Rahul has told the selectors that he will be eligible for selection for the Champions Trophy. Rahul is not regarded as an automatic option in the ODI XI now that Rishabh Pant and Sanju Samson are back in the mix. All of India's matches will take place in Dubai, with the remaining games taking place in Pakistan, the host country.
"He will be available for selection for the Champions Trophy, but he has requested a break for the England series," a BCCI source told PTI on Thursday.
Rahul was one of the few batters to score runs during the Test series in Australia, while the well-known Indian batting collapsed. With 276 runs at an average of 30.66 in 10 innings, he was India's third-highest run scorer. His tour did not, however, finish as well as it began. He was sent to Australia as a No. 6, but when captain Rohit Sharma was unavailable for personal reasons, he returned to the top of the order. In the Perth Test, he displayed exceptional discipline in both innings, making Rohit slip for the next two Tests to make room for him at the top of the order. However, as the series came to a close, Rahul's form waned, which was evident in India's performance as they lost the last two Tests to concede the series 1-3.
Rahul is being pushed for a Champions Trophy place by Pant and Samson.
Rahul is competing with Rishabh Pant and Sanju Samson for the position of wicketkeeper batter in the Champions Trophy team, despite being higher in the rankings. In the most recent ODI in Sri Lanka, Pant was picked over Rahul, although he hasn't exactly lit up the limited-overs scene. However, Samson will also be a serious candidate for the second keeper's spot due to his recent explosive performances in T20Is.
Rahul had taken a break from Karnataka's Vijay Hazare Trophy matches as well. Over the weekend, they will play their quarterfinal.
His availability for Karnataka's Ranji Trophy campaign is uncertain, as head coach Gautam Gambhir has emphasized the importance of domestic cricket for all Indian players following the series defeat in Australia.
