Five Oscars, including Best Picture, were nominated for Dune: Part Two. However, Dennis Villeneuve's exclusion from the Best Director category infuriated Josh Brolin.
Josh Brolin is upset that Denis Villeneuve, the filmmaker of Dune: Part Two, was not included in the 2025 Academy Awards' Best filmmaker category. Five nominations, largely in technical categories, including one for Best Picture, were given to the critically and commercially successful movie. Josh expressed his disappointment on his Instagram Stories, bringing up his earlier remark that he would stop acting if Dennis was not recognized.Josh's words
In the film Dune: Part Two, Josh portrayed Gurney Halleck. He posted a video of himself on Instagram Stories, congratulating the nominees on their Dune: Part Two honor. He also said that it "does not make sense to me" that Dennis was not recognized.
He wrote: "I just wanted to say congratulations on the 'Dune' best film nomination, to Patrice [Vermett] for production design and sound, and to Greig Fraser for cinematography and best visual effects. It seems that because Denis Villeneuve was not nominated, I will be giving up acting. This is simply the way it operates. I don't understand it. It's alright. [Editors] Denis and Joe Walker,You're worthy. The movie is excellent. It exceeded the prior one in quality. Those who have received recognition are undoubtedly deserving of it. I'm glad to be involved. Congratulations to all.

The second part of Frank Herbert's novel, which takes place on the made-up desert planet Arrakis, is the basis for Dune: Part Two. Zendaya portrays Chani, a teenage Fremen warrior, while Timothee Chalamet portrays Paul Atreides, the exiled Duke of House Atreides.According to Denis, he is also considering directing a third Dune movie, which would be based on the second book in the series, Dune Messiah.
