Instagram adds "Edits," modifies the profile grid, and lengthens the time of reels.

Reels up to three minutes in length are now permitted on Instagram. A vertical format for displaying content has been added to the profile grid. Edits, a video editing tool, will soon be available.

Meta's social media platform Instagram has announced several changes, including extending the maximum duration of Reels. Instagram is also introducing a new area on the Reels page that shows videos that friends have liked, as well as a revamped profile grid. Additionally, the website has shown a brand-new video editing tool called "Edits." These are all the modifications:

Limit on Instagram Reels

Adam Mosseri, the head of Instagram, stated in a message on the app that users may now publish Reels up to three minutes in length. He explained that the change was made in response to comments that the current 90-second limit is "too short" for people who like to broadcast longer content.

Longer videos can already be posted on Instagram, but they are categorized as ordinary posts rather than reels.

Grids for Instagram profiles

Mosseri revealed in an Instagram Story that profile grids will now show content as rectangles instead of squares. Square grids, he continued, "overly crop them." The majority of Instagram uploads are vertically oriented.

"I think people will, over the long run, be excited that more of their photos and videos are visible as intended in the profile rather than being aggressively cropped," Mosseri stated.

Section on New Reels

Mosseri also revealed that a special area displaying videos that friends have liked will now be available on the Reels tab. "Now, when you go to the Reels tab, you'll see a dedicated feed of Reels your friends have liked or added a note to in the top right and start a conversation with them right there."

According to Instagram, this feature will initially launch in a few nations before spreading to other areas.

Edits on Instagram

Instagram released a video editing software named "Edits." Mosseri said in a different post that the software provides a "full suite of creative tools." These include the option to share drafts with others, support for higher-quality videos, and a tab for inspiration and idea tracking. Additionally, the app will offer information about the Instagram performance of videos.

The app can be pre-registered on the Apple App Store, however it is not yet accessible on the Google Play Store for Android. The listing states that March 13 is the anticipated launch date for the app.
