In the assembly elections, former chief minister Arvind Kejriwal will compete against the sons of two previous chief ministers in an epic battle for the New Delhi seat.

In the assembly elections, former chief minister Arvind Kejriwal will compete against the sons of two previous chief ministers in an epic battle for the New Delhi seat.

Former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is getting ready to defend his seat against powerful political leaders' sons, Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma and Sandeep Dikshit, in the 2025 Delhi Assembly elections. This election is expected to be an intense political struggle because of the history of intense competition.

Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma, the son of former chief minister Sahib Singh Verma, has been put forward by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for the New Delhi seat.

The announcement of Parvesh's candidacy in the 29 names on Saturday sets the stage for a fierce race between the sons of two former chief ministers and a former chief minister in the New Delhi seat of the upcoming Delhi Assembly Election 2025.

Arvind Kejriwal, the former chief minister of Delhi and national convenor of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), is running for office in New Delhi. In the assembly elections of 2013, 2015, and 2020, Kejriwal won the seat three times.

The son of Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, former MP Sandeep Dikshit, has been put forward by the Congress. The fight becomes even more intriguing with the announcement of Parvesh's candidature on Saturday.

Two sons of past CMs against an ex-CM
From 2014 to 2024, Parvesh Verma served as a BJP MP from West Delhi twice. From the Mehrauli constituency in South Delhi, he emerged victorious in the 2013 Delhi assembly election.

Sahib Singh Verma, Parvesh's father, served as Delhi's fourth chief minister from February 1996 until October 1998.

Last month, the Congress party issued its first list of 21 candidates for the Delhi assembly elections, which included Sandeep Dikshit's name. Sheila Dikshit, the late mother of Sandeep and a former Delhi Chief Minister, had held the seat for three consecutive terms until losing to Kejriwal in 2013.

In 2004 and 2009, Sandeep, 60, won two seats in the East Delhi Lok Sabha. In the Lok Sabha elections of 2014, he lost the seat.

Although they are adversaries in Delhi and Punjab, the Congress and the AAP are partners in the INDIA bloc. Kejriwal rejected the idea of forming an alliance with the Congress in the forthcoming assembly elections in the nation's capital earlier this week.

A prominent seat
Of the 70 assembly constituencies in the nation's capital, New Delhi is one of the most well-known.

Kirti Azad was elected on a BJP ticket from New Delhi in 1993. Azad is currently a Lok Sabha TMC MP. As a congressional candidate, Sheila was elected in 1998, 2003, and 2008.

In 2013, Kejriwal defeated Sheila by more over 25,000 votes to win the seat in New Delhi. In 2015, he won the seat once more, defeating Nupur Sharma of the BJP by more than 31,000 votes.

In the most recent assembly election in 2020, Kejriwal defeated Sunil Yadav of the BJP by more than 21,000 votes. Romesh Sabharwal, a Congress contender, received only 3,220 votes in the 2020 assembly elections for the New Delhi constituency.

Delhi's 2025 BJP candidate list
On January 4, the BJP unveiled their initial slate of candidates for the Delhi Assembly Election. In addition to Parvesh Verma, the first includes the names of former AAP leader Kailash Gahlot from the Bijwasan seat, former Congress party Delhi unit chief Arvinder Singh Lovely from Gandhi Nagar, and former Kalkaji MP Ramesh Bidhuri.

Schedule of the 2025 Delhi Assembly Elections
It is anticipated that the 70-member Delhi legislature would hold elections in February of the following year. The dates have not yet been made public by the Indian Election Commission.

The Delhi assembly's current term ends on February 23, 2025.
