After criticizing far right attitudes in Europe, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz was called "oaf Schitz" by Elon Musk, which generated a commotion on X.
Elon Musk caused a stir on X when he called German Chancellor Olaf Scholz "oaf Schitz" in response to Scholz's comments in Davos, where he said that "extreme right positions are not acceptable in Germany and Europe."German Chancellor Olaf Scholz is referred to by Elon Musk as "oaf Schitz," which is a sarcastic wordplay. In English, "Oaf" refers to someone who is stupid or uncoordinated, whereas "Schitz" is quite similar to the word "shit," suggesting a crude insult.
Notably, Elon Musk made this statement just one day after the US tech tycoon caused a stir with a gesture that many compared to a Nazi salute during Donald Trump's inauguration speech.
Elon Musk twice gave the "Nazi salute" in front of the audience.
Olaf Scholz, the chancellor of Germany, warned last week that billionaire Elon Musk's ties to the far right "endangers" European democracy.
At a news conference in Berlin, Scholz stated, "He supports the far right everywhere in Europe — in the UK, in Germany, and in many, many other countries — and that is something that is completely unacceptable."
The German leader went on to say, "It must be criticized because it jeopardizes our community and the democratic development of Europe."
Scholz had previously criticized Elon Musk's meddling in the German election campaign, and his remarks were an addition to that.
Recently, Elon Musk has stepped up his backing for the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party, saying that only the AfD can "save Germany" in the run-up to the February 23 elections.
Elon Musk encouraged Germans to support the AfD in a livestream conversation with Alice Weidel, the party's chancellor candidate, on his social media platform X, saying, "If you are unhappy with the situation, you must vote for change."
Politicians throughout Europe are alarmed by his remarks and worried about his increasing sway in European politics, especially in light of his prior attempts to help Donald Trump win the US election.
Given that the AfD is a "suspected extremist organization" according to German intelligence, Musk's involvement with the party has come under heavy fire.
Elon Musk has also garnered media attention for his calls to free British anti-Islam campaigner Tommy Robinson, who is now in jail, and for his criticism of British Prime Minister Keir Starmer's administration as "tyrannical."
