Donald Trump outlines who should receive advantages in the birthright citizenship dispute, saying it's "not for the world to pile into the US."

US President Trump issued an executive order against birthright citizenship earlier on January 20, the day of his inauguration. But the following day, a federal court in Seattle declared it to be invalid.
According to PTI on Friday, US President Donald Trump stated that birthright citizenship was "mainly designed for the children of slaves and not for the whole world to 'come in and pile' into the US amid the controversy over an executive order opposing it.

Trump seemed certain that the Supreme Court would decide in his favor when he said that he would appeal the Seattle federal court judgment.

"If you go back to when this was established and created, birthright citizenship was intended for slave children. According to PTI, Trump told reporters in the White House Oval Office, "This was not meant for the whole world to come in and pile into the United States of America."

"Everyone entering, including completely unqualified individuals with possibly unqualified kids." That wasn't the purpose of this," he stated.

He claimed that it was a "very good and noble" thing to do and that it was intended for slave children.

"I simply believe that we will prevail in the Supreme Court." I believe we will prevail in that lawsuit. I'm excited to take it home."

"At that level, we're the only country in the world that does this," he stated.

Early this week, a group of Republican senators filed a bill in the US Senate that would limit birthright citizenship to children of non-immigrants on temporary visas and illegal immigrants.

The bill's sponsors, Senators Lindsey Graham, Ted Cruz, and Katie Britt, stated that the abuse of birthright citizenship is a significant attraction for illegal immigration and a vulnerability for national security.

The Center for Immigration Studies estimates that between 2,25,000 and 2,50,000 births in 2023 were to illegal immigrants, or over 7% of all births in the United States.

According to the Birthright Citizenship Act of 2025, children born to at least one parent who is a US citizen or national, a lawful permanent resident of the US, or an alien serving in the armed forces are eligible to obtain citizenship simply by virtue of their birth in the US.
