Delhi fog: IndiGo and SpiceJet warn passengers as more than 100 flights are delayed at IGI airport

Due to heavy fog and cold wave conditions throughout northern India, more than 100 aircraft were delayed at the Delhi airport on Friday morning, according to an official quoted by news agency PTI.

However, the official stated that no planes have been diverted thus far, even though Delhi's visibility is poor due to the thick fog.

"Flights that are not CAT III compliant may be impacted while landings and takeoffs continue at Delhi Airport. For the most recent flight information, travelers are asked to get in touch with the relevant airline. At 6:35 a.m., Delhi International Airport Ltd. (DIAL) posted on X, expressing their sincere sorrow for any inconvenience.

Aircraft can operate in reduced visibility thanks to the CAT III facility. DIAL operates the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA), which sees about 1,300 airplane movements every day.

Delhi is covered with dense haze.
As poor air quality reduced visibility to nil in some parts, thick haze enveloped Delhi, causing airport and airline officials to warn of potential flight problems.

In Friday's live rankings by Swiss group IQAir, Delhi, which has been struggling with pollution and poor air quality since the start of winter, came in third place among the most polluted capitals in the world.

IndiGo and low-cost airline SpiceJet also issued a warning about weather delays on social media.

According to the aviation website FlightRadar24, delays for 20 planes averaged eight minutes by 10:14 a.m.

According to the media, certain train services in the capital were also delayed.

The nation's leading pollution control organization declared New Delhi's air quality to be "very poor" on Friday, with an index score of 351, which is far higher than the "good" range of zero to fifty.
