Chhattisgarh: Mungeli steel mill chimney falls, leaving two people missing and one dead

Officials say that two workers were hurt in the smelting plant mishap.

A chimney at a smelting plant in the Mungeli district of Chhattisgarh collapsed on Thursday, killing one person and injuring another. There are still two unaccounted for individuals.

According to Mungeli Superintendent of Police Bhojram Patel, the event happened at a plant in the district's Saragaon neighborhood.

According to Patel, initial reports indicate that the silo, an iron structure intended to hold bulk goods, collapsed, burying several of the site's workers beneath it.

He went on to say that a rescue effort was started after the police were notified. According to PTI, two injured workers were saved and taken to a hospital in Bilaspur.

Many more personnel are reportedly trapped beneath the fallen structure, and efforts are underway to rescue them, the spokesman added.
