News from Chhattisgarh: An improvised explosive device (IED) was detonated by naxalites on Monday, January 6, in the Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh, targeting a vehicle carrying security personnel. The bombing in Bijapur was thought to have killed at least nine persons, including a driver.Nine individuals, including eight Dantewada DRG jawans and one driver, were killed in Bijapur when naxals detonated their vehicle using an IED blast, according to the Inspector-General of Bastar.
IG Bastar stated, "They were returning following a joint operation of Dantewada, Narayanpur, and Bijapur." According to Dantewada, the IED bomb used in Bijapur may have weighed between 60 and 70 kg. DIG Kashyap Kamlochan
The Bedre-Kutru Road in the Bijapur district is where the explosion happened. Inspector General of Police (Bastar Range) Sundarraj P stated that the event happened close to Ambeli hamlet under the Kutru police station when security officers were returning in their Scorpio vehicle following an anti-Naxalite operation.
According to an officer who spoke to news agency PTI, this is the largest Naxalite strike against security forces in the previous two years.
Ten police officers and a civilian driver were killed on April 26, 2023, when a convoy of security forces in the nearby Dantewada district was blown up by Naxals.
A joint team of security officers was on an anti-Naxalite operation on Saturday evening when a shootout broke out at a forest in south Abujhmaad along the border of Narayanpur and Dantewada districts, according to an official.
On Sunday, four Naxalites were discovered dead, and on Monday, a fifth body was located.
The Chhattisgarh police are reporting that five Naxalites, including two women, were killed in the gunfight with the security forces on Saturday.
According to authorities, security personnel neutralized 219 Naxalites in various engagements throughout the state last year.
Sannu Karam, the head constable of the District Reserve Guard (DRG), was also slain in the gunfight.
