Many users made comparisons to the 2019–2020 period, when the first Covid-19 cases appeared in China and eventually sparked a global pandemic that killed lakhs of people and impacted economies all over the world.

Five HMPV cases have been reported in India thus far, including two in Chennai, one in Ahmedabad, and two in Bengaluru. Union Health Minister JP Nadda addressed the HMPV issue in India by claiming that there was no reason for concern and that the Central government was prepared to deal with any possible rise in respiratory viral infections.
