One of the leading candidates for prime minister of Canada is Anita Anand, the country's minister of transportation. The incumbent prime minister, Justin Trudeau, declared on Monday that he would resign before the 2025 elections. Anand has had a variety of positions throughout her career. In 2019, she was elected as Oakville's first member of parliament. She formerly held the positions of Minister of Public Services and Procurement (2019–2021), Minister of National Defense, and President of the Treasury Board.

During the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic, Anand oversaw contract talks as the Minister of Public Services and Procurement to obtain vaccines, PPE, and fast diagnostics for Canadians.
