The government was still in the process of confirming which US citizens could be deported to India, the minister added.
India has always been open to the "legitimate return" of undocumented Indian immigrants to their homeland, according to External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, who made this statement on Wednesday, according to news agency PTI.S. Jaishankar stated that they had not yet decided on a figure and that the administration was still in the process of confirming which US citizens could be deported to India.
Since we do believe in a global workplace, it is clear that as a government, we strongly encourage legal mobility. We want Indian abilities and talent to have as many opportunities as possible on a global scale. However, Jaishankar told reporters, "We are also very strongly opposed to illegal mobility and illegal migration."
According to the minister, India has consistently argued with the US and other nations that any Indian national who was present as an undocumented immigrant was free to return home through legal channels.
He went on to say that unlawful immigration may be connected to other criminal activity that harms the nation's image.
It was previously reported that India was collaborating with the administration of US President Donald Trump to deport 1,80,000 Indians who are either undocumented or have overstayed their visas in the US.
"The United States is not the only country with this viewpoint. Although we have been constant and quite principled about it, and that is still our attitude, I am aware that there is a certain debate going on right now and that there is sensitivity as a result. Regarding the Trump administration's immigration crackdown, Jaishankar stated, "I made that very evident to Secretary (of State, Marco) Rubio."
According to Jaishankar, he highlighted in bilateral discussions with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio that finding solutions that would legally support mobility was in both countries' best interests.
"I don't think the partnership is properly served if the waiting period for a visa exceeds 400 days or more. That aspect was also recognized by him (Rubio)," he stated.
