An update on Jasprit Bumrah's fitness: The India pacer will not play in the England ODI series. After suffering a back injury during the Sydney Test match against Australia, he has been advised to take it easy for at least five weeks.
According to BCCI chairman of selectors Ajit Agarkar, Jasprit Bumrah has been selected for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 roster but will miss the first two ODIs against England. On Saturday in Mumbai, Agarkar and skipper Rohit Sharma revealed India's 15-man Champions Trophy roster. As of right now, we've been informed that Bumrah won't be playing in the opening two games. We are awaiting Jasprit Bumrah's fitness and will find out from the BCCI medical staff in early February," Agarkar said.
Bumrah has been recommended to take at least five weeks out after suffering a back injury during the fifth Test match against Australia. Harshit Rana has been selected to play the opening two ODIs against England in his place.
Before the Champions Trophy starts on February 19, India will play three bilateral ODIs against England on February 6, 9, and 12—their first 50-over matches since the August tour of Sri Lanka last year.
By February 11, the ICC must receive the final Champions Trophy squad. The third ODI between India and England is scheduled for January 12 in Ahmedabad, assuming Bumrah recovers in time.
India's ICC Champions Trophy 2025 campaign begins on February 20 against Bangladesh, followed by matches against Pakistan on February 23 and New Zealand on March 2.
Rohit Sharma (c), Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammad Shami, Arshdeep Singh, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rishabh Pant, and Ravindra Jadeja are the members of the Indian team for the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy.
What was Bumrah's fate?
Bumrah was seen on camera leaving the stadium grounds with a member of the BCCI medical team to have scans at a local hospital during the fifth Test match against Australia in Sydney. Bumrah did not bowl in the fourth innings, despite coming out to bat in India's second innings. It was later discovered that Bumrah's heavy workload caused a back spasm.
The India pacer refuted a TOI report that claimed Bumrah had been instructed to stay in bed. "I know fake news is easy to spread, but this made me laugh," Bumrah responded on X. Untrustworthy sources
