According to reports, Rishabh Pant will be named the LSG captain for the 2025 IPL.

According to reports, Rishabh Pant will be named the LSG captain for the 2025 IPL.

At last year's IPL 2025 mega auction in Jeddah, the Lucknow Super Giants paid Rs 27 crore to recruit Rishabh Pant.

Rishabh Pant, a star batsman and wicketkeeper from India, is expected to take over as captain of the Lucknow Super Giants in the Indian Premier League. During last year's IPL 2025 mega auction in Jeddah, LSG paid Rs 27 crore to sign the 27-year-old cricket player. "Rishabh Pant is set to be named captain of the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) ahead of IPL 2025," according to an ESPNCricinfo report.

Pant debuted for the Delhi Capitals in the lucrative league in 2016 and played for the Delhi-based team till 2024. In addition to having the most caps in DC's history, Pant is the franchise's all-time top scorer. He led the team in the 2021, 2022, and 2024 editions of the world's richest franchise cricket league after being named DC captain in 2021.

Under KL Rahul's leadership, LSG participated in the first three seasons of the 2022 Indian Premier League. In his debut season as captain, Rahul guided LSG to the IPL playoffs, however the team did not keep him.

Nicholas Pooran, a renowned batsman and wicketkeeper for the West Indies, was in the lead to become the captain of the LSG before to the huge auction. Pooran leads MI New York in the MLC and has previously captained the West Indies T20I. The team owned by Sanjiv Goenka kept the left-handed batsman-wicketkeeper for Rs 21 crore.

In addition to Pooran and Pant, Mitchell Marsh and Aiden Markram—the captains of Australia and South Africa in the Twenty20 Internationals, respectively—were apparently in the running to take over as the Lucknow Super Giants' next captain.

Pant would be the fourth player to captain LSG in the IPL if approved. Rahul, Krunal Pandya, and Pooran were the previous LSG captains. Rahul was the team's full-time captain, however after Rahul was ruled out of the 2023 IPL, Krunal took over as captain, and Pooran managed the team for one IPL 2024 match.
