On December 13, nine days after the stampede at Hyderabad's Sandhya Theatre, Allu Arjun was taken into police custody. He was subsequently placed in judicial detention for 14 days before being freed on temporary bail.
Hyderabad: After a stampede at a city theater this month killed a 35-year-old lady and seriously injured her 8-year-old daughter, Telugu actor Allu Arjun was questioned by Hyderabad Police on Tuesday. On Monday, the police called 41-year-old Mr. Arjun to assist with the inquiry.
The following were some of the questions the police asked him:
- Did you realize that you were not allowed to attend the premiere with police permission?
- Despite being denied police permission, who made the decision to move forward with the plan (for the actor to attend the special screening)?
- Were you told about the crowd outside by any police officers?
- When did you find out about the woman's passing?
According to sources who spoke to NDTV, the probe will focus on two questions: a. did Mr. Arjun have authorization to attend the theater, and b. did he have permission to speak with fans outside the theater, which is located in a metropolitan neighborhood with other movie theaters?
On December 13, nine days after the stampede at Hyderabad's Sandhya Theatre, Allu Arjun was taken into custody by the police. He was placed in 14 days of judicial custody a few hours later.
But hours later, in a stunning turn of events, the Telangana High Court granted Mr. Arjun temporary bail, citing his fundamental right to liberty and raising concerns about potential police abuse. "Just because he is an actor... he cannot be held like this," the judge declared.
According to the police, a huge number of Allu Arjun's fans jostled and shoved one another aside in an attempt to get a look of the actor as he unexpectedly showed up at the theater for a special screening of his latest movie. The ensuing brawl claimed the young woman's life.
Police provided emergency first aid and hurried the woman, who they have identified as Revathi, and her kid out from under the mob.

The police assert It was 9.30 p.m. when Mr Arjun arrived. Hundreds gathered when word spread that he had arrived, using the main door and spending 15 to 20 minutes outside. The situation worsened when his security crew and the theater's bouncers began shoving the audience back.
By this point, Allu Arjun had vanished into the theater, according to the timeline the police were creating, after putting on what they claimed was an unplanned roadshow in defiance of warnings.
"They pushed everyone away even though the police and the public were present. Last Monday, Hyderabad Police Commissioner CV Anand informed reporters, "They only paid attention to the VIP (Mr. Arjun)."
No roadshow has been held, according to Mr. Arjun. "I simply stepped inside and waved to everyone. My manager told me there was a throng and requested me to leave, but no police officer instructed me to do so," he stated.
The actor has also refuted the police's allegation that they were unaware of his arrival through his office. Shortly after his detention, a letter was made public. It requested protection for a visit by Mr. Arjun and his co-stars and was dated 48 hours before the screening.
However, the police have stated that no information was given and that, as is customary in these situations, neither Mr. Arjun's security team nor the theater management personally made the request.
The theater's owner, general, and security managers, along with the actor and his security detail, have been charged with culpable homicide that does not qualify as murder. Following Mr. Arjun, six people were detained, including the theater's owner and employees; all six have since been released on bond.
His colleagues actors have backed Mr. Arjun, arguing that he cannot be held accountable for the deeds of others. He has also denied claims that he caused the untimely death.
He termed the situation "very unfortunate" and denounced what he called "misinformation" and "character assassination" against him during a press conference on Saturday.
However, there has been disagreement among the public; a demonstration was held outside his house on Sunday.
A group of people stormed into the compound, threw tomatoes at the structure, and damaged flower pots. Until they were expelled, the demonstrators—who were purportedly college students—also yelled slogans.
In an interview with NDTV on Monday, the woman's husband stated that he is prepared to drop the police case against the actor and does not hold him responsible for the stampede. He asserted that Mr. Arjun had given him his "full support". 'Pushpa 2: The Rise' producers have announced ₹50 lakh, while the actor has announced ₹25 lakh for the family.
