Trinamool's Significant Action Against Amit Shah During the Ambedkar Scandal: "Mask Has Fallen"

The notice of privilege coincides with a full-scale onslaught by the opposition against Home Minister Amit Shah.

New Delhi: The Trinamool Congress has filed a privilege notice against Union Home Minister Amit Shah amid the intense controversy surrounding his comments on Dalit icon BR Ambedkar, claiming that he has degraded the dignity of Parliament and the heritage of the man who drafted the Constitution.

The notice has been moved under Rule 187 by Derek O'Brien, the leader of the Trinamool Congress in the Rajya Sabha. In the midst of a full-scale onslaught by the opposition against the Home Minister, who is accused of insulting the Dalit icon during his speech in the Upper House yesterday, the privilege notice was issued.

Speaking during yesterday's debate commemorating the 75th anniversary of the Constitution, Mr. Shah claimed that using BR Ambedkar's name had become "fashion" for opposition leaders. Saying "Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar" has become popular. He said that they would have been admitted to heaven if they had invoked God's name so frequently. "Take his name 100 times more, but I want to say what are your sentiments about him." Mr. Shah claimed that because of his disapproval of the Jawaharlal Nehru-led administration, BR Ambedkar was forced to leave the first Cabinet.

Leaders of the Congress and other opposition parties accused Mr. Shah of demeaning the Dalit icon after the statements caused a major controversy.Members of the opposition parties protested and displayed pictures of BR Ambedkar during today's Parliament session. Opposition leaders intensified their attacks on the ruling party and called for the resignation of the Home Minister, while BJP leaders accused the Congress of disseminating a brief video clip that omitted Mr. Shah's comments about how the Congress supposedly sidelined BR Ambedkar.

The BJP leadership, under by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, mounted a counterattack as the opposition attempted to corner the government and demanded Mr. Shah's resignation and an apology.

In an X thread with six points, the Prime Minister said that the Congress and its "rotten ecosystem" were "gravely mistaken" to believe that "malicious lies" would cover up their insult to the Constitution's creator."The Congress and its corrupt environment are very incorrect if they believe that their vile lies would cover up their years' worth of wrongdoing, particularly their disrespect to Dr. Ambedkar! The Prime Minister stated, "The Indian people have witnessed again how one party, under the leadership of one family, has used every conceivable shady tactic to destroy Dr. Ambedkar's legacy and degrade the SC/ST community.

BR Ambedkar's "sins" against the Congress include "getting him defeated in elections not once but twice, Pandit Nehru campaigning against him and making his loss a prestige issue," the Prime Minister continued in his tweet.refusing to display his image in the Central Hall of Parliament.

Mamata Banerjee, the leader of Trinamool, had already blasted the Home Minister, claiming that the "mask has fallen." As Parliament commemorates the Constitution's 75 illustrious years, HM @AmitShah decided to TARNISH the event by making derogatory statements against Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar, especially in the temple of democracy. This demonstrates the casteist and anti-Dalit sentiment of the BJP. Imagine the harm they would have caused if their goal of 400 seats had been realized, given their current behavior despite being cut to 240 seats. In a post on X, she stated, "They would have completely erased Dr. Ambedkar's contributions by rewriting history."

"The comments made by HM Amit Shah are disrespectful to the millions of people who look up to Babasaheb for inspiration and direction. However, what else would you anticipate from a party that has embraced racism and hatred? "This ludicrous statement is not only an outright attack on Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar, the father of the Constitution, but also on all members of the Drafting Committee of the Constitution, which represented India's unity in diversity with members from all castes, creeds, ethnicities, and religions," Ms. Banerjee stated.
