A strong US dollar ahead of the Federal Reserve's interest rate decision next week caused gold prices in major Indian cities to drop by ₹20 per 10 grams on Friday, December 13.

The gold's two-day gains in local markets caused the precious metal to drop below the $2,700 an ounce threshold in overnight trading. Before acting, investors are waiting for the US Fed's policy rate announcement next week.

In early Asian trading, spot gold was slightly higher at $2,686 an ounce. During overnight trading, the metal fluctuated between $2,679 and $2,692 per ounce.

Prices for 24K and 22K gold fell by ₹20 and ₹79,610 per 10 kilos, respectively, in Delhi markets. In Mumbai, the price of 24K gold fell to ₹79,460 per 10 grams, while that of 22K gold fell by ₹20 to ₹72,840 per 10 grams.

Early on Thursday, silver prices in key Indian cities rose by ₹1,200 to ₹96,600 per kg, primarily as a result of increased demand from industrial units and coin producers. The white metal's rise in local markets were tempered by its retreat in international markets.

In international markets, spot silver fell 0.19% to $30.92 an ounce. The gold reached a high of $31.10 an ounce and a low of $30.87 an ounce during overnight trading.
