The average self-income of a chief minister is Rs 13,64,310, which is over 7.3 times the average per capita income of India, despite the country's per capita net national income (NNI) being around Rs 1,85,854 for 2023–2024.

According to a research released on Monday by the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR), Mamata Banerjee of West Bengal is the poorest chief minister in India with assets of barely Rs 15 lakh, while N Chandrababu Naidu of Andhra Pradesh is the richest with assets worth over Rs 931 crore.

According to the research, state assembly and union territories have an average asset per chief minister of Rs 52.59 crore.

The average self-income of a chief minister is Rs 13,64,310, which is over 7.3 times the average per capita income of India, despite the country's per capita net national income (NNI) being around Rs 1,85,854 for 2023–2024.

Thirty-one chief ministers have assets of Rs 1,630 crores.

With total assets of over Rs 332 crore, Pema Khandu of Arunachal Pradesh is the second richest chief minister, while Siddaramaiah of Karnataka comes in third with assets beyond Rs 51 crore.

Omar Abdullah, the chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir, is the second lowest person on the list with assets of Rs 55 lakh, while Pinarayi Vijayan comes in third with Rs 118 crore.

Additionally, Mr. Khandu has the largest liabilities, totaling Rs 180 crore. According to the report, Mr. Siddaramaiah owes Rs 23 crore, while Naidu owes over Rs 10 crore.

Additionally, it stated that 10 (32 percent) chief ministers had announced major criminal cases, such as those involving bribery, criminal intimidation, kidnapping, and attempted murder, while 13 (42 percent) chief ministers had proclaimed criminal proceedings against themselves.

Only two of the 31 chief ministers are female: Atishi of Delhi and Mamata Banerjee of West Bengal.
