Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh passed away a few days ago, and the Telangana Legislative Assembly asked the Central Government to award him the Bharat Ratna.

In order to honor Mr. Singh, who was instrumental in the creation of Telangana State, the Assembly has decided to erect a statue of him at a conspicuous location within the Greater Hyderbad Municipal Corporation (GHMC). When the Legislative Assembly met in special session on Monday, December 30, 2024, to express their condolences for the former Prime Minister's passing, they unanimously voted a resolution in this regard.

The passing of the former prime minister, who remained silent and never lost patience, was an irreversible loss to the nation, according to Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, who presented the resolution to the assembly this morning. Mr. Singh would continue to lead his peers in directing the economic and political reform, concentrating on bolstering the nation's economy and politics.

The Chief Minister recalled how Mr. Singh took part in the demonstration for democracy protection that the Congress MPs in Delhi organized. This demonstrated the former prime minister's humility. He declared, "This incident will live in our memories forever."

An internationally renowned economist, Mr. Singh served the nation in a variety of roles and was a key architect of the globalization, privatization, and liberalization policies that propelled the nation to the fifth-largest economy in the world. Mr. Reddy added that simplicity was Mr. Singh's defining characteristic, which would continue to motivate the next generation. "He faced criticism with people describing him as'mouna muni' (silent sage) and 'accidental Prime Minister,' but he remained resolute on ensuring empowerment of the common man at grass root level," he said.

The Chief Minister recounted how, while Mr. Singh was the nation's prime minister, the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment GAccording to Mr. Reddy, it was agreed to erect a statue of Mr. Singh in a well-known area, such as the Financial District, because it was important to do it on Telangana territory. However, in order to situate the statue where more people would be present, he asked all political parties for proposals regarding the location.

Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, the deputy chief minister, recounted how Mr. Singh made difficult choices to strengthen the nation's economy during a financial crisis. Two notable aspects of the UPA Government under Mr. Singh were the first-of-its-kind Food Security Act and the crop debt forgiveness.
