Taliban Promises Retaliation After Pakistani Airstrikes Kill 15 in Afghanistan

Five members of a family were slain in Laman, one of seven villages targeted by the attacks on the evening of December 24.

At least 15 people, including women and children, have been killed in a series of Pakistani airstrikes on Afghanistan's Barmal region in Paktika province, and the number is predicted to continue to grow. According to reports, the strikes, which happened on the evening of December 24, targeted seven towns, including Laman, where a family of five people was killed.

According to local sources, the bombings were carried out by Pakistani jets. According to reports, the ongoing humanitarian catastrophe was made worse by the destruction of the Barmal village of Murg Bazaar.

The airstrikes have increased tensions in the area by causing extensive destruction and serious civilian fatalities. According to Khaama Press, more research is necessary to verify information and determine who is responsible for the attacks as recovery operations proceed.

After the airstrike on Barmal, Paktika, the Taliban's Ministry of Defense has promised to strike back.

The Ministry denounced the incident and said that "Waziristani refugees" were among those attacked, asserting that they had a legitimate right to protect their territory and sovereignty.

The airstrike was targeted at Taliban hideouts near the border, according to security sources close to the military, although Pakistani officials have not formally verified the attack.

This occurs when tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan are rising, especially in light of Pakistani militants' presence in Afghanistan.

In recent months, the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), often known as the Pakistani Taliban, has stepped up its operations on Pakistani soldiers, and Pakistan has accused the Afghan Taliban of harboring them.

Taliban Ministry of Defense spokesperson Enayatullah Khwarazmi stated on X (formerly Twitter) that "civilian people, mostly Waziristani refugees," had been killed in the airstrike and refuted the Pakistani allegations.

Although no official death toll was given, Khwarazmi said that "several children and other civilians were martyred and wounded" in the incident. According to sources, at least 15 bodies—including those of women and children—have been found, and as search efforts continue, the number of fatalities is predicted to increase.

The citizens who were displaced by military operations in Pakistan's tribal areas are known as Waziristani refugees. Pakistan, meanwhile, insists that a large number of TTP leaders and combatants have escaped to Afghanistan, where the Afghan Taliban are allegedly providing them with protection in border districts.

Because of the continued presence of TTP militants in Afghanistan, tensions between Pakistan and the Afghan Taliban have been rising for a while. The Afghan Taliban maintain that it is not working with the group, despite Pakistan's accusations that it harbors them.
