The Akal Takht has imposed a religious penalty on former Punjab deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal, which includes two days of guard duty at the Takht Kesgarh Sahib.
Sukhbir Singh Badal, the former deputy chief minister of Punjab, showed up for guard duty at the Takht Kesgarh Sahib in Anandpur Sahib on Thursday under heightened security, a day after he barely avoided being shot at.A man identified as former militant Narain Singh Chaura tried to shoot at the 62-year-old Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader on Wednesday when he was on "punishment" guard duty outside the Golden Temple as part of a religious sentence imposed by the Akal Takht. However, he was overcome. Chaura is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday.
As part of his religious punishment, Badal, who is under Z-plus security, must spend two days in the Takht Kesgarh Sahib.
The security guards on duty in Amritsar were dispersed throughout the city and wore plainclothes on Wednesday. The authorities were in uniform, and there were more security guards on duty on Thursday. Badal was sitting on guard near the entrance of the Takht Kesgarh Sahib when the security guards stood to his right.
In addition to Badal's personal security, uniformed police officers were also spotted at the location.
