Accusing Congress legislators of politicizing the violence in Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh deputy chief minister Brajesh Pathak urged lawmakers to abstain from interfering with the state's law and order.
Rahul Gandhi, the leader of the opposition and a Congress MP, was stopped by police at the Ghazipur border on Wednesday, preventing him from traveling to Sambhal in Uttar Pradesh, which is riven by violence. This caused a brief period of turmoil in the Lok Sabha. The Chair abruptly interrupted Congress MP Mohammad Jawed as he was wrapping up his remarks about the declining water quality in his constituency of Kishanganj by mentioning the police resistance Gandhi had to deal with.
"It is regrettable that the Leader of the Opposition was unable to travel to Sambhal. This is unacceptable. Other Opposition MPs loudly agreed with Jawed, who said, "It is inappropriate to obstruct the Leader of Opposition, and he intended to conduct a peaceful review of the situation."
The Chairperson, Jagdmbika Pal, responded by forbidding Jawed from making any remarks regarding the Leader of the Opposition's actions outside of Parliament. "What the Leader of the Opposition does outside of Parliament will not be noted by the House. Pal insisted, "He ought to be in the House," as the opposition persisted in protesting.
Earlier in the day, amid communal tensions, Rahul Gandhi, his sister, Wayanad Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, and other senior party leaders attempted to visit Sambhal but were halted by authorities at the Ghazipur border. Gandhi claimed that he was instructed to return in a few days at the border.
"The cops are preventing us from passing as we try to travel to Sambhal. I have the right to visit as the Leader of the Opposition, but they are preventing me from doing so. They also turned down my offer to accompany the cops on a solo trip. They told us they would let us continue if we came back in a few days. The Constitution and the Leader of the Opposition's rights are being violated by this. To learn more about what transpired there and to get to know the locals, we would like to visit Sambhal. This is a violation of my constitutional right. The Constitution is being undermined by the emerging India. This is the India that aims to destroy the Constitution of Ambedkar. We're going to keep fighting," he declared.
Brajesh Pathak, the deputy chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, advised politicians to abstain from interfering with the state's law and order and accused Congress leaders of politicizing the violence in Sambhal.
"The Sambhal incident is being politicized by Congress leaders." Please refrain from undermining Uttar Pradesh's law and order. The atmosphere there is being harmed by your presence.Law and order and growth are needed in the area. Uttar Pradesh cannot be divided by them. Section 144, which forbids meetings until peace is restored, is enforced by the police whenever there is substantial disruption. The Congress shouldn't do such things there as long as it's in force," Pathak said.
