Of the 3.25 lakh HIV-positive individuals in Andhra Pradesh, only 2.75 lakh are undergoing treatment: Project Director for APSACS

The fact that young people made up the majority of the State's HIV-affected population is concerning, she says.

On Sunday, December 1, A. Siri, the project director for the Andhra Pradesh State AIDS Control Society (APSACS), stated that just 2.75 lakh of the expected 3.25 lakh individuals in the state were presently undergoing treatment for HIV.

Speaking at a World AIDS Day awareness event at Tummalapalli Kalakshetram in Vijayawada, she stated that global efforts were being made to eradicate HIV entirely by 2030.

The majority of the State's HIV-affected population is young, which is a serious worry, she said, adding that most people in the State could reach Link ART (Anti-Retroviral Therapy) centers within 50 kilometers.

She stated that in order to reach the general public, the AIDS Control Society has been conducting campaigns through the use of films, short plays, and street performances; posting messages in public locations such as bus stops and train stations; broadcasting on television and radio; and planning kala jathas.

She urged young people to actively participate in awareness-raising campaigns using cutting-edge techniques like social media flash mobs. She said those who made major contributions received certificates and souvenirs as a token of appreciation.

Dr. Siri advised those infected with the virus to take their drugs as directed and maintain a healthy lifestyle.

In reference to this year's theme of "Take the Rights Path," APSACS Additional Project Director Saraswathi stated that eradicating HIV was a shared duty that could be accomplished through broad knowledge.

A procession from the railway station grounds to Tummapalli Kalakshetram kicked off the program. Under the auspices of APSACS, individuals and teams who achieved excellence in their respective fields were awarded certificates and mementos.

The awareness workshop was attended by Deputy Director Chakravarthy, Joint Directors T. Manjula, Kameswara Prasad, and Bhagya Lakshmi of the society, among others.
