After wearing Santa hats to spend Christmas in space, NASA astronauts Sunita Williams and Butch Wilmore—who are now stranded at the ISS—sparked a number of conspiracy theories on social media. Three of her coworkers wore the Santa caps, while Williams wore a red t-shirt, according to the video released by the US space agency.People on social media were eager to speculate, asking whether the astronauts were aware that their time at the ISS will be extended.
"You brought Christmas decorations into space months ago?" responded a user.Someone else remarked, "Really? Given that their expedition was only supposed to last eight days, how did they know they needed all these Christmas decorations?
"Who brought the Christmas hats and decorations?" a user inquired. So, you planned ahead enough to pack them when there is a huge demand for additional capsule space?
Since June, Williams and her companion astronaut have been stationed in the ISS. Due to a Starliner spacecraft problem, the eight-day ISS trip was extended into months. Even the astronauts' scheduled return home in February of next year has been postponed. Now, they'll be back in March.
But the conspiracy ideas are over thanks to NASA.
The Santa hats, the US space agency informed the New York Post. As part of a three-ton SpaceX cargo in November, the ISS crew members received a Christmas tree along with additional gifts and decorations. Christmas foods like ham, turkey, potatoes, veggies, pies, and cookies were also included in the bundle. In addition, the cargo included a few scientific and mission-specific supplies.
According to the statement, supplies are restocked aboard the International Space Station multiple times a year.
Christmas greetings from space sent by NASA astronauts
In a video released by NASA, Williams and others discussed their Christmas plans and sent out greetings.
"As we prepare for the Christmas holidays, welcome to the International Space Station. We get to spend this wonderful time with our entire "family" aboard the International Space Station. We will be able to enjoy each other's company because there are seven of us up here," Williams stated.
She also discussed her favorite aspects of the event, stating, "One of the best things that I like about Christmas is the preparation and just getting ready, the anticipation, everybody getting together and preparing stuff and just getting ready for the holiday."
