Minister Describes First Test Flight's Landing at Noida Airport as "Great Achievement"

The Noida International Airport is set to commence operations in April of next year, becoming the second major airport in the National Capital Region (NCR) following the Indira Gandhi International Airport.

New Delhi: The Noida International Airport successfully carried out its first flight validation test today, clearing the path for its operations to begin next year.

An IndiGo aircraft departed from Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi with only crew members on board and landed on the runway after undergoing essential security checks, receiving a water salute upon arrival.

Situated in Jewar, in the Gautam Buddha Nagar district of Uttar Pradesh, the airport aims to start operations in April of next year, positioning itself as the second major airport in the National Capital Region (NCR) after IGI airport.

"This project is of great significance. The successful landing of the aircraft today is a significant milestone," stated Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu.

Noida International Airport's CEO, Christoph Schnellmann, expressed gratitude towards the Civil Aviation Ministry, the Airports Authority of India, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, and the Uttar Pradesh Government led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

"We collaborated to complete the work in record time," he remarked.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for Jewar Airport in November 2021.

The development of the airport is being handled by Yamuna International Airport Private Limited, a subsidiary of the Swiss company Zurich Airport International AG, in partnership with Noida International Airport Limited, which is the implementing agency representing the Uttar Pradesh government.

Covering an area of 1,334 hectares, the project is projected to accommodate 1.2 crore passengers annually in its initial phase, with an expected increase to 3 crore by the end of the decade and 7 crore in the following years.

Initially, one runway will be operational, and upon its opening, the terminal will feature 10 aerobridges and three bus gates. Eventually, there will be two runways in operation, and the airport is set to expand from 28 aircraft spots in the apron area at the start to 200 as the number of flights and passengers increases.

The airport will be accessible via the signal-free Yamuna Expressway, linking it to Greater Noida, Noida, and Delhi.

It has been designed as a gateway to various tourist attractions in North India, including the Taj Mahal, as well as for religious pilgrimages such as the Chardham Yatra, Kumbh Mela, Mathura, Vrindavan, and the Buddhist circuit featuring Sravasti, Kapilavastu, and Kushinagar.
