Jay Shah's term as ICC Chair began today, December 1, according to the International Cricket Council.
Shah gave a statement in his first speech as ICC Chair, outlining his goals for the period, which included further boosting the growth of the women's game and taking advantage of the sport's inclusion in the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.Shah stated in a statement, "I am honored to assume the role of ICC Chair and grateful for the support and trust of the ICC Directors and Member Boards."
"As we get ready for the LA28 Olympic Games and strive to make cricket more accessible and interesting for fans around the world, this is an exciting time for the sport.
"With several formats coexisting and the desire to boost the women's game's growth, we are at a pivotal point in time.
"Cricket has a lot of potential around the world, and I'm excited to work closely with the ICC team and Member nations to take advantage of these opportunities and advance the sport."
Shah began his career with the Gujarat Cricket Association in 2009 and has a wealth of experience in cricket administration. He managed the construction of Ahmedabad's largest cricket stadium during his tenure.
Shah became the youngest Honorary Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) when he joined in 2019.
As the Chair of the ICC's Finance and Commercial Affairs Committee and President of the Asian Cricket Council, he has also held significant positions.
Shah will now take over as ICC Chair in place of Greg Barclay. Barclay took over the position in November 2020, and Shah recognized his involvement in the accomplishments of ICC throughout the past four years.
In addition, he expressed gratitude to Greg Barclay for his four years of leadership in the position and the accomplishments made during that time.
"I'm excited to collaborate closely with the ICC team and the Member nations to broaden the game's appeal and advancement on the international scene."
